Robert Parker 92 Points- The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Reserve is composed of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, coming from more than 20 different sites, with 29% coming from estate vineyards in St. Helena and Rutherford. It was aged in French oak barrels, 37% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it rocks up with ready-for-business scents of blackcurrant pastilles, redcurrant jelly and Morello cherries with hints of dried Provence herbs, pencil shavings and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with crunchy black fruits, supported by firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and savory.
Wine Spectator 90 Points- Friendly and open, with plum and blackberry compote flavors framed with hints of singed vanilla and cedar. Stays fresh through the polished finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Malbec and Cabernet Franc.
Jeb Dunnuck 90 Points- A smoking value, the 2018 Napa Valley Reserve Red is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon yet has small amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Franc. It’s a blend from multiple vineyards but comes mostly from Rutherford and St. Helena. Lots of ripe red and black fruits, toasted spices, and a touch of leafy tobacco emerge from this medium to full-bodied, rounded, upfront, and undeniably delicious Cabernet. It’s not going to make old bones, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at the price. Enjoy bottles over the coming 5-7 years.
