Description
Chateau Lassegue is the stunning St. Emilion property purchased by the Jackson Family who made it one of the region’s top performers. With Winemaker Pierre Seillan (also of Verite), the Lassegue team turns out exceptional right bank Bordeaux every vintage. Located on the Côte de Saint-Émilion, the vineyards of Chateau Lassegue are blessed with both extraordinary soils and an ideal south/south-west exposition to the sun. In discovering the unique micro-crus of the property, Pierre Seillan realized he could produce more than one wine to showcase the diversity of the estate. Primarily a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, Les Cadrans de Lassegue, the estate’s second label, is refined and elegant, a beautiful and perfect expression of its fruit.
2016 was an outstanding vintage and this wine is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from vines averaging 40-50 years of age. The wine was aged 10 Months in 20% new French oak barrels.
The Lassègue 2016 is an outstanding vintage that displays concentration and power while retaining balance and freshness, showcasing the wine’s clay and limestone terroir in the context of an exceptional year. It displays a deep, crystalline color and a bright violet-ruby rim. The nose is expressive of crunchy ripe red and black fruits, flint, rose petal and violet. The palate strikes immediately with a density of texture, balanced and lifted by bright acidity and freshness of fruit, which gives way to notes of spice underpinned by silky, elegant tannins. The long finish is driven by vibrant acidity, bright fruit, and a chalk dust-like minerality. An outstanding vintage with excellent potential for bottle ageing.
