Description
The Domaine de l’Ile Margaux is located on a small island in the Gironde estuary. The land was previously a part of Chateau Margaux until 1855, year of the classification. The vineyard, fully organic since 2015, is about 50 acres. Their wine is a blend of 5 grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The grapes are hand-picked and vinified in oak barrel during 12 months, before being blended and bottled on-site. One of the particularities of this wine is its ratio of Petit Verdot. Indeed, this grape variety is hard to grow. It usually represents 2 to 3% of a blend for Chateau Margaux. The Domaine de l’Ile Margaux wines can have a blend that includes 15% of Petit Verdot, thanks to the specific terroir of the island.
