The wines of the Boisset Family
Saturday, April 16 the famous and ebullient Jean Charles Boisset will be here at Ed’s Fine Wines! I know Jean Charles is fond of all things French, including Bull Dogs- I am too! So please come join us to meet this interesting character, famous wine family proprietor, and wine (and dog) lover!
Jean Charles’ family has been in the wine industry since 1961, beginning in Burgundy, France, where Jean Charles was born. Today, Jean Charles leads his family with a passionate entrepreneurship- owning wineries in both the Old and New World. The flagship Burgundy winery, Clos Vougeot is where he began his wine career with his parents. He then partnered with sister Nathalie, and created Domaine de la Vougeraie, and together they created and named the family winery, Jean Claude Boisset, after their father. Boisset is a premier boutique winery in the Cotes de Nuits, Burgundy, France.
In 2003, Jean Charles purchased the De Loach winery is Sonoma’s Russian River valley. Inspired by his Burgundian roots, he began producing terroir driven wines with the same commitment to organic and biodynamic farming he had instituted in France. He later purchased Raymond Vineyards in Napa Valley, which has since become a leader in luxury wine production. Then in 2011, Jean Charles purchased the historical Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma. The Boisset Collection has since grown to include the aforementioned CA wineries, and also the French Bon Pas, Bouchard Aigne & Fils, Vougeraie, Fortant, and Louis Bernard and Mommessin. In the sparkling wine category, there is the JCB line of bubbles, Charles de Fere, Grandin, and Louis Bouillot.
We will be sampling wines from the collection, and Jean Charles will be signing bottles and sharing stories of his famous family and wineries from 1 – 3 PM on the 16th.
Here are a few of the wines we will be tasting:
JBC 69 There is a series of Sparkling French Wines in this collection, each represented by a number that has some significance to Jean Charles. The “69” is a Brut Rose that represents the year Jean Charles was born, as well as unlimited expression, creativity, artistry and refinement. Their Cremant de Bourgogne is made with Pinot Noir grapes, crisp strawberry and red fruit flavors with a dry finish. I give it three bones!!
Bouchard Aigne & Fils Bourgogne Chardonnay is a regional Burgundy Appellation, classical citrus aromas, vanilla and floral notes. I give it two bones!!
Bouchard Pouilly Fuisse This 100% Chardonnay is from the two villages of Pouilly and Fuisse, pear and apricot, with soft floral notes and subtle oak undertones. Three bones!!
Fortant de France Muscat Blanc Saffron yellow in color, this Muscat white features aromas of lychee and roses, round and delicate with tropical fruit flavors. I give it three bones!!
Fortant de France Grenach Rose When warm temperatures roll in, we love our classic Rose by the pool or on the patio; rose petal pink hue, with a nose of red currants and thyme, delicate berry with a fine, dry finish. Two bones!!
Buena Vista Merlot From the historical Sonoma property, this Merlot is full bodied with juicy black fruit flavors, notes of tobacco and spice and dark cherries. I give it three bones!!
Raymond Sommelier Selection Cabernet Sauvignon Raymond Winery is located in Napa Valley, CA, but this wine was crafted by a group of restaurant sommeliers inspired by three growing regions, Napa, Sonoma and Lake County. Aromas of cherry, plum and dusty rose, the wine features a velvety mouthfeel with raspberry and black currant flavors. Three bones!! This is just a handful of wines we carry here at Ed’s from the Boisset portfolio. Look forward to seeing you on April 16 with the amazing Jean Charles for an unforgettable time.
