Long ago in the beautiful country of Italy a young boy named
Ed Giancola was born in the foothills of the Gran Sasso
mountain near Abruzzo. The young boy work as a
Sheppard, tending to the sheep and enjoying the simple life
of the Italian countryside with his brothers, sisters and
parents. After the second world war, the young boy
immigrated to Canada with his family. There he kept
busy working odd jobs and learning many different trades
before finding his niche in the grocery business. For
many years he learned all facets of the grocery
business. Though all aspects of the business were
interesting to the young man he was especially keen on
customer service. He believed that if you treat the
customers right they will take care of you and encourage
others to patronize your operation. After getting
married and having 3 boys Ed and his family packed up and
moved to sunny Florida. The beautiful seaside village
of Tarpon Springs would be their new home.
After working as a produce manager for one of the
larger grocery chains Ed opened his first grocery store.
Through hard work, customer service and a warm and friendly
personality his one store would eventually erupt into a
chain spanning across Florida. Several years later the
stores would be sold off and Ed would venture into his true
love, gourmet foods and fine wines.
Nestled in the south Tampa area Giancola's Market was
opened and gave people a place to purchase incredibly fresh
produce, seafood, meats and other gourmet food items.
Giancola's wine selection was one of the largest and best in
the state and they soon gained a reputation as one of
Florida's premier wine stores. Working alongside his
son Perry, Giancola's Market was one of the most successful
and well run stores in the country. People all over
would rave about it and chefs from throughout the bay area
would browse the aisle looking for the freshest ingredients
to create fabulous specials for their menus.
Today, Ed and Perry Giancola have opened up shop in
Safety Harbor, Florida. They have left the food
behind, but took their true passion with them. Their
beautiful store on McMullen Booth road is already the
premier spot to purchase wines across the board.
